In her latest album, "Smile", Katy Perry experiments with themes of vulnerability, empowerment, joy, and hope. Perry remarks that this album was written during one of the darkest time of her life. Know for her colorful costumes and theatrical performances, Perry explains that she uses escapism and humor as a way to bring a little levity to the seriousness of life. This album thoroughly reflects her growth as a woman and a soon-to-be mother. While there are some similarities between this album and her previous work, "Smile" is undoubtedly her most vulnerable album yet.

“I am growing as an adult human, as a woman, as a soon to be mother. yes maybe these themes are a little more mature, but I think everybody has grown up, I've grown up with my audience a little bit, and we are growing up together”

Katy Perry
